Engineer - system safety

We are seeking an experienced Engineer - System Safety to join our Systems Engineering, Integration and Test team in Brisbane. This position is offered on a fixed‐term basis for a period of 6 months.

As an Engineer - System Safety, you will play a critical role in applying systems safety engineering principles to identify, analyse, and mitigate safety risks throughout the system lifecycle. You will collaborate with cross‐functional teams to develop safety requirements, conduct hazard analyses, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

• Define and document safety requirements aligned with regulatory standards and customer expectations.
• Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments using techniques such as FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis.
• Develop and execute safety verification and validation plans.
• Lead safety reviews including Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Safety Design Reviews (SDR).
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive safety documentation.
• Ensure that all safety engineering activities comply with applicable industry standards, regulations, and enterprise policies.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to communicate safety findings, provide updates, and ensure alignment on safety objectives.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety engineering practices.

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, safety engineering, or related field.
• 6+ years of experience in systems safety engineering, including hazard analysis and safety verification.
• Proficiency with safety engineering methodologies (FMEA, FTA) and aerospace standards (ARP4761, DO-178C, DO-254).
• Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Familiarity with safety analysis tools and software.

• Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Functional Safety Engineer (FSE).
• Experience in aerospace safety‐critical systems.

• Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.
• Able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance.
• You may require a Foreign Work Authorisation (FWA) in order to perform this role. This is not a requirement set or determined by Boeing but by the Department of Defence under laws issued in 2024. Please refer to the Department of Defence website to understand these requirements.
