Role

This is a fixed term STS position till 31 December 2026

The Director Legal, Public Transport Ticketing is responsible for providing authoritative advice on a wide range of complex legal issues, focusing on the delivery of both hardware and software aspects of the new ticketing system for the state. This role is accountable for delivering timely, clear, and pragmatic legal advice to the Public Transport Ticketing (PTT) Project Team, working closely with and managing the department's external legal advisors and any internal legal resources assisting with the project.

In addition to offering legal advice, the Director Legal, PTT will play a proactive and critical role in helping the department formulate strategic direction in response to legal and commercial issues related to the PTT Project. The role includes making recommendations to senior stakeholders to inform decision-making, ensuring that the strategic and operational objectives of the PTT Project are met.

You are a highly skilled and engaged member of your project and legal teams, respected and sought after for your legally excellent, clear, timely, and pragmatic legal advice. You successfully identify and advise on how to manage all significant legal risks ensuring that all legal challenges are addressed efficiently. By effectively and efficiently managing internal staff and external advisors, you ensure that the advice and services provided are of a high standard, reflect current best practices, mitigate risk, optimise business outcomes, and offer consistent value for money.

You proactively establish and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and clients to support the delivery of objectives. You contribute to a positive team culture by always acting with respect and courtesy to your colleagues and clients.


Qualifications and role specific requirements


Mandatory

* Admitted, or eligible to be admitted, to practice as a lawyer in Victoria
* Minimum 8 years post qualification experience
* Current tertiary degree in law


Desirable

* Demonstrated experience advising on complex issues relating to contract management, infrastructure management, information technology, contractual disputes, transport operations and project delivery
* Demonstrated in-house experience
* Demonstrated experience working for or advising government, including awareness of government-specific considerations relevant to legal advice
* Demonstrated experience managing delivery of legal services by external providers
