ELECTORATE OFFICER VACANCIES
Expressions of Interest (EOI) are invited for experienced Electorate Officers to work within the Office of Senator Malarndirri McCarthy in a full-time, ongoing capacity. The positions are based in Darwin, with occasional travel to Canberra and regional NT as required.
The role of an Electorate Officer is to assist constituents, community organisations and businesses in the Northern Territory electorate, which includes Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
Key duties of these positions involve, but are not limited to:
· Designing materials for the Senator to communicate with the electorate;
· Providing the Senator with strategic advice on local issues that may impact the electorate;
· Responding to enquiries from members of the public, community organisations and businesses;
· Preparing material such as briefing notes and speeches, to assist the Senator's role in the Federal Parliament relating to local issues; and
· Liaising with State and Federal government departments on behalf of the Senator to resolve issues.
Applicants should possess the following skills and experience:
· An understanding of Australia's system of government and parliamentary processes;
· Excellent oral and written communication skills;
· Well-developed office IT skills;
· Good organisational ability; and
· Ability to work as part of a small team.
The successful applicants would be required to also work on special projects relevant to the dual roles of Minister for Indigenous Australians and Senator to the Northern Territory.
Employment conditions:
There are four positions available under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 with conditions outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement, which include:
· Two Electorate Officer A positions with a salary range of $74,537 - $78,911 (+ $23,218 Electorate Staff Allowance (ESA)).
· One Electorate Officer B position with a salary range of $76,910 - $89,793 (+ $27,865 ESA).
· One Electorate Officer C position with a salary range of $88,160 - $99,305 (+ $32,510 ESA).
· All four positions include ESA in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.
· Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
· An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

· An initial probationary period of three months may apply and may be subject to extension.
· The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
· Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
· The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
· For staff employed by a Minister or Parliamentary Secretary either in a personal or electorate staff position, it is a condition of your employment that you obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 2 security clearance and comply with the Ministerial Staff Code of Conduct.
