As a Chassis Controls Development Engineer, you will be a key member of our Chassis Controls team, tasked with supporting our International Markets Group (IMG) Product Development organisation deliver braking and steering features and functions that meet corporate customer and regulatory requirements. We are seeking a specialized Chassis Controls Engineer to lead the development, calibration, and validation of advanced Electronic Brake Control Systems (EBCS) and Electric Power Steering (EPAS) systems. In this role, you will be responsible for the fine-tuning of safety-critical chassis dynamics, ensuring seamless integration between friction braking, regenerative braking, and steering assistance. You will utilize industry-standard and proprietary diagnostic tools to analyse complex vehicle behaviour, ensuring all systems meet rigorous legislative standards and functional safety goals. Reporting directly to the Chassis Controls Supervisor, this position is based at the Ford of Australia Lara You Yangs Vehicle Proving Ground. This role operates under a hybrid work arrangement, requiring four days on-site at the Lara PG. Chassis System Calibration: Perform vehicle-level calibration of braking (ABS, ESC, TCS, iBooster) and steering systems (LCA, LKA, ANC, PDC, etc) to achieve desired vehicle DNA, handling characteristics, and stability targets. Data-Driven Problem Solving: Collect and analyze complex vehicle data from track and road testing using CANalyzer and CANape. Identify root causes of brake and steering issues, unintended interventions, or communication faults. Control System Logic: Oversee the integration of Bosch control logic (MM6 family/ESP variants), ensuring correct interaction between the powertrain and chassis domains. Safety & Compliance: Ensure all braking and steering calibrations comply with global homologation standards (e.g., ECE R13-H) and Functional Safety requirements (ISO 26262 ASIL D). Perform vehicle-level tuning of steering and braking functions & features with the support of Tier 1 system suppliers and cross functional attribute teams that meet market and customer performance requirements. Evaluate and tune vehicle steering functions to deliver driver assist features such as Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Centering Assist (LCA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), through EPS (Electric Power Steering) controls and tuning parameters. Evaluate and tune vehicle braking features - for example ABS/TCS/ESC, electric park parking functions, regenerative braking, off road features. Support the software engineers release calibrations for steering and braking systems Deliver chassis controls issue resolution and development sign-off at Ford sites in Australia, Fords production plants globally, onsite dealer visits and at supplier test facilities globally. Plan and execute vehicle level testing, development and issue investigation and resolution on prototype and production vehicles. Tertiary qualification required (Engineering Electrical /mechanical). Minimum of 5 years' experience in a technical testing and development sign-off environment required. Experience and interest in vehicle control and evaluation of vehicles in a proving ground environment. Knowledge of chassis control systems Anti-Lock Braking Systems, Electronic Stability Control, drive-by-wire, active suspension, power steering, and other electrified chassis systems Chassis Calibration Tools: Vector Suite: Expert proficiency in CANape for parameter modification/calibration and CANalyzer for bus monitoring and data acquisition. Ford Proprietary Tools: Demonstrated experience with Ford DET (Diagnostic Engineering Tool) for service routine validation and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) analysis.Bosch Systems: Experience working with Bosch MM6 toolsets or Bosch Chassis Control architectures (ESP/iBooster). Systems & Protocols: Deep understanding of vehicle communication networks (CAN, CAN-FD, FlexRay) specifically regarding chassis-to-powertrain torque requests.Conversant with UDS (ISO 14229) and OBD-II standards. Ability to travel as required to support international test and launch activities. High level interpersonal skills - ability to build relationships in a production plant, test facility and cross functionally within an organisation. Demonstrated ability to present complex technical issues in a comprehensible format both verbally and written. Detail-Oriented: Uncompromising approach to safety-critical validation. Analytical: Ability to synthesize data from multiple controllers to understand complex vehicle-level interactions.
