The Technical Specialist, Environmental Services, supports the Regional Service Line Leader, Environmental Services within the National Services Region, in specialized areas of environmental services support in a highly dynamic technical and regulatory landscape. The incumbent reviews, analyzes and provides recommendations on new service requirements to both DCC and the Client-Partners. The Technical Specialist also supports the development of processes and templates for decisionmaking, analysis and evaluation of performance against environmental and sustainability criteria. The incumbent develops creative solutions and ensures project teams are focused on collaboration, and quality and timeliness of deliverables.
KEY AND PERIODIC ACTIVITIES
The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative but not all-inclusive:
Primary
* Review, analyze and interpret emerging regulations, guidelines and direction from the Government of Canada and the Client-Partners
* Develop processes and lead cross-functional teams to track and report on performance against environmental and sustainability-related indicators
* Collaborate with Government of Canada and Client-Partner technical experts on emerging requirements by participating in working groups, meetings and direct communications
* Support the Regional Service Line Leader, Environmental Services, in developing training and communication tools related to emerging requirements
* Develop templates for conveying new environmental requirements
* Develop and maintain effective relationships within DCC, and with industry, the ClientPartners and/or stakeholders
* Ensure quality standards are met, in line with corporate expectations
Other
* Draft and review statements of work for environmental and sustainability-related projects and programs
* Other duties as assigned
SKILLS
General and Specific Knowledge
* Best practices, methods, trends and legislation in environmental sciences and environmental engineering
* Greening and sustainability, climate resiliency, embodied carbon analysis, and analysis and remediation of contaminants
* Project and risk management principles
Formal Education and/or Certification(s) and Experience
* Minimum: college diploma in architectural technology, sustainable design, building technology, environmental studies or related field with eight years' relevant experience, or the equivalent
* Preferred: specialized knowledge, training and certification in one or more environmental services practice areas
Abilities
* Use applicable computer software and operating systems
* Write proposals, technical texts and reports
* Resolve complex problems with multiple stakeholders
