College Gardens and Grounds Officer
A full-time opportunity now exists for a Gardens and Grounds Officer to join the Property Services team of Downlands College. The Property Services Department is actively engaged in supporting the productive and effective running of the College’s day to day operations through effective maintenance and operational support. This role is on a permanent basis to commence immediately or as otherwise negotiated.
The Role
The Property Services Department is responsible for working across a variety of spaces conducting a range of tasks. Your role will include but not be limited the following duties:
- Maintaining the College’s gardens/grounds and playing fields.
- General turf management
- Top dressing and aeration of the playing fields and grounds.
- Line marking playing fields and other areas for activities/events.
- Maintaining the College's gardens
- Planting trees and vegetating new areas throughout the gardens/grounds.
- Pruning, trimming and mulching of plants within the gardens/grounds.
- Pest and weed management throughout the gardens/grounds.
- Mowing and edging, watering, hedging and pruning of the gardens/grounds.
- Installation and maintenance of irrigation systems.
- General landscaping
- Maintenance of College plant and equipment
- Setting up for College functions, events and activities
- Being flexible concerning tasks undertaken and working as a member of the team assisting wherever possible the smooth running of the Property Services Department
- Working from time to time in special areas of need at the direction of the Property Services Manager to achieve the goals of the Property Services Department.
- Contributing ideas to enhance the smooth running of the Property Services Department.
- Actively following WH&S; guidelines and procedures, to ensure a safe working environment for all staff, students and members of the wider College community.
- Such other duties as required by the College from time to time
About You
Ideally you will have:
- A valid Working With Children Check – Blue Card (essential)
- A relevant certificate or proven knowledge and experience in horticulture/grounds establishment and maintenance, including knowledge and experience in gardens/grounds equipment usage.
- A valid White Card or OHS induction certificate from other states would be advantageous
Salary
Services Staff Level 4 – currently being paid $36.99 per hour plus super.
