About Us

Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria's newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.

PYMHWS is leading a bold and values-driven transformation in youth mental health care across Melbourne's north and west. We exist to walk alongside young people, their families, carers, supporters and kin delivering care that is accessible, inclusive, developmentally appropriate, evidence-informed, and grounded in lived experience. The Opportunity

Our service is made up of compassionate, curious, and committed people. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced, collaborative, and proactive Nurse Unit Manager to lead the PYMHWS Hospital in the Home (HITH) program. In this role, you will guide a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, recovery-focused mental health care to young people and their families in their own homes. You will play a central role in developing and refining the HITH model of care, overseeing workforce planning, rostering, budgets, and operational systems, and ensuring services operate safely, efficiently, and in line with evidence-based practices.

About The Role

The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) for PYMHWS Hospital in the Home (HITH) provides leadership and operational oversight for delivering safe, recovery-focused mental health care to young people and their families in home settings. The role involves leading a multidisciplinary team, overseeing workforce planning, resource management, and service delivery, and ensuring care is inclusive, evidence-based, and responsive to the diverse needs of young people, including those from LGBTQI+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

The NUM will also drive the ongoing development and refinement of the HITH model, contribute to service evaluation and improvement, and strengthen partnerships with internal teams, community services, and external stakeholders. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape innovative youth mental health care and make a tangible impact across multiple sites within PYMHWS.

What You'll Do

Oversee the coordination of 24/7 HiTH operations, ensuring seamless patient flow and timely service delivery across multiple sites.
Support integration and collaboration between acute, continuing care, and community services to optimize transitions for young people and families.
Contribute to service evaluation and continuous improvement initiatives, including monitoring program data and outcomes to enhance care quality.
Represent the HITH program in internal and external forums, fostering partnerships with stakeholders and advocating for youth mental health needs.
Promote inclusive, culturally safe, and trauma-informed practices, ensuring services meet the diverse needs of young people, families, and carers.

About You

A dynamic and experienced nurse leader passionate about delivering safe, recovery-oriented youth mental health care in home-based settings, with expertise in multidisciplinary team leadership, service development, and operational management.

Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration and relevant postgraduate or tertiary qualifications in mental health nursing

Minimum 7 years' experience in youth or acute mental health, with proven ability to lead, supervise, and develop multidisciplinary clinical teams

Strong operational and strategic leadership skills, including workforce planning, rostering, and budget/resource management

Exceptional communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across multiple services and sites

Committed to delivering youth-focused, inclusive, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented care in home-based or community settings
