Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – Construction

About the Company
Verso Construction is the construction arm of Verso Projects, delivering residential and commercial developments across Southeast Queensland. The business has a strong forward pipeline, long-term subcontractor relationships and a highly hands‑on leadership team.
The Role
Due to continued growth, Verso is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the finance function for the construction division and support project delivery, compliance and cashflow management.
This is a hands‑on CFO position suited to someone with a strong background in construction finance who is comfortable operating across payroll, project trusts, subcontractor payments and financial reporting.
Reporting to the Construction Director, you will manage a small finance team and work closely with project and site‑based teams to ensure strong financial governance and compliance across all active projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the finance function for the construction division, managing a team of 3
* Oversee payroll in line with construction awards and EBAs, including allowances, overtime and RDOs
* Ensure compliance with the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act
* Manage subcontractor progress claims, payment schedules, retentions and trust accounts
* Oversee AP/AR, cashflow forecasting, month‑end reporting, BAS, GST and payroll tax
* Provide financial insight and reporting to support project delivery and leadership decision‑making
* Work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers and Contracts Administrators
About You
* Proven experience in construction accounting, project finance or commercial construction finance
* Strong knowledge of BIF Act compliance, subcontractor payments and trust accounts
* Experience managing payroll under construction awards
* Confident working with operational and site‑based teams
* Highly organised, detail‑focused and commercially minded
Qualifications & Systems
* Degree in Accounting, Commerce or Finance
* CPA or CA qualification (or working towards) highly regarded
* Experience with Jobpac, Cheops, Viewpoint, MYOB, Xero or similar systems
