Primary objective
Operating in a Shared Services, ensure the prompt and efficient delivery of Payroll Services to a large portfolio of client agencies
with employees in a diverse range of occupational streams covered by a variety of awards, industrial agreements and employment
legislation.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake payroll and related tasks for employees; accurately calculate and process salary and allowance payments, employee
entitlements, and taxation and superannuation payments, and input data into computerised personnel information
management systems.
1. Provide timely, quality payroll information to clients to assist them make informed decisions or resolve client queries, including
complex queries about pay and entitlement related matters.
1. Monitor, respond to and resolve requests received via the HR Ticketing System and direct client contact by promptly resolving
problems or referring more complex issues to the Senior Payroll Officer or Team Leader for action.
1. Maintain the integrity of personnel records ensuring accuracy of all data recorded.
2. Develop and maintain effective communication links and working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
3. Manage own workflow within the stringent timeframes that apply to minimise backlogs and actively contribute to the
development of a work environment that promotes high quality, customer focussed service delivery.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Knowledge and understanding of payroll processing with good attention to detail skills and experience in dealing with
sensitive matters with confidentiality, empathy and integrity.
2. Sound interpersonal skills and communication skills to build and sustain positive customer focused working relationships and
communicate effectively with diverse client agency stakeholders and employees.
3. Basic knowledge and experience of payroll related employment legislation i.e. awards and enterprise agreements and ability
to correctly apply information from these to accurately calculate and process payroll and employee entitlements and
successfully deliver end-to-end payroll services.
1. Demonstrated ability to manage time and work effectively under pressure, concurrently co-ordinate tasks and meet required
timeframes and standards.
1. Good organisational and time management skills including the ability to work effectively under pressure both independently
and in a team environment to meet required timeframes.
1. Previous experience using computerised Human Resource systems, preferably gained in a similar role in a public sector
environment and basic working knowledge of relevant computerised HR systems used in the NTPS utilised for payroll
processing or the ability to quickly acquire and apply this knowledge.
