This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Pyrmont, Sydney. There are approximately 290 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 350 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.
About the role
DroneShield is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with relevant experience to join the team in Sydney, NSW.
The position will report to Design Engineering Lead.
This role will be responsible for developing and sustaining DroneShield products. This will include CAD development, working with suppliers, simulation and testing.
Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations
* Consult with stakeholders to understand product requirements
* Develop andexecute design verification testing,plans and reports
* Develop mechanical solutions utilising CAD and produce BOM's, manufacturable part and drawing packages
* Utilise advanced analysis software and techniques to validate and affirm design decisions throughout the product development lifecycle
* Interpret and apply relevant standards to ensure compliance and quality assurance
* Liaise with designers, electronics engineers and the NPI and manufacturing team to improve product quality, reliability, and manufacturability
* Liaise with suppliers in Australia and overseas to understand manufacturing capabilities and limitations
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics,similar technical field of study
* Minimum 3 years experience in a design/engineering role in a product design environment
* Proficiency in software tools - SolidWorks, SolidWorks Simulation, SolidWorks PDM
* Experience in conducting: FEA, FEM, Thermal Analysis, Structural Analysis,Vibration Analysis
* Sound understanding of product development and testing for high volume manufacture
* Knowledgein design for production processes including machining, sheet metal and injection moulding
* A high level of competency in 3D CAD modelling and creating 2D drawings and specifications
* Highly developed interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills
* A high level of creativity and able to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills
* A portfolio showcasing prior work is an advantage
* The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, deliver and meet deadlines
* Keep yourself up to date with the latest technologies, tools and methods to be effective in your role
* Previous experience working in Defence, medical, aerospace or consumer electronics is favourable
