This position provides customer-focused regulatory enforcement of Council’s local laws with an emphasis on education, collaboration, information, and self-regulation.
Minimum Requirements:
* Knowledge of statutory requirements relevant to the role, including the Local Government Act 2009 and Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008.
* Substantial experience in Local Law enforcement and interpretation, with the ability to apply laws reasonably and with discretion in an outcomes and education-focused manner.
* Demonstrated experience in running, reporting, and closing regulatory investigations.
* Skills and experience in participating in a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic environment with variable work priorities.
* Ability to monitor workflows and work autonomously.
* Proven ability to work unsupervised with limited direction, exercising sound judgment in decision-making and problem-solving.
* Desirable: Certificate IV in Government (Investigation) or equivalent; Certificate in Animal Management/Local Government/Statutory Compliance.
* High-level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with the public and build relationships.
* Conflict management skills.
* Experience in animal control and behavior, with the ability to safely handle various animals.
* Willingness to obtain an Authorised Persons card within the probationary period.
* Current driver’s license and General Construction Induction (White Card).
Key Responsibilities:
* Enforce Council’s Local Laws and relevant legislation.
* Investigate and resolve complaints, serve notices to seek compliance.
* Issue infringement notices and deliver education programs on community safety and responsible pet ownership.
* Understand and enforce impound procedures and relevant legislation.
* Conduct patrols for breaches of Local Laws on private and Council land, taking appropriate action.
* Handle animals, including aggressive dogs, safely.
* Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion professionally.
* Assist in policy and procedure development.
* Conduct investigations, gather evidence, take photographs, and prepare reports.
* Participate in on-call roster and respond to emergent complaints.
* Follow lawful directives from supervisors.
Out of hours work may be required. Duties may change at any time.

* Meet role requirements, follow policies and procedures, and complete work to standard and on time.
* Conduct investigations efficiently and in accordance with procedures.
* Address customer requests promptly.
* Complete dog attack investigations within 14 days.
* Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
* Promote compliance with Council policies.
