Green2Gold2Great Investment Program to propel Period Two success forward

Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) has rolled out $6.5 million in crucial funding through Period Two of its Green2Gold2Great (G2G2G) Investment Program.

The outlay will supercharge Australian athletes and their sports after a stellar Period One that delivered on 78% of funded initiative outcomes.

The 10 program sports set to compete at Glasgow 2026 will share in a $4 million allocation specifically designed to drive preparations and deliver team success at the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Each Team Member selected for the Games will also receive a $5,000 direct investment from CGA to enhance their final preparation, with a total of $1.5 million allocated.

A further $1 million has been allocated to sports not featuring at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, assisting in establishing emerging talent.

Supported initiatives include domestic and international training camps, competitions, data analysis, leadership development and performance support, all of which will continue to advance the skills necessary for sustainable success on the world stage.

Australian Athletics’ relay program will continue to benefit, with funding working to build momentum and develop the nation’s impressive sprinting depth through targeted camps and international competitions.

Support provided through Period One is already delivering results, with Australia’s history-making relay teams contesting all six events at the World Athletics Relays for the first time ever last weekend. The mixed 4 x 400m team claimed a silver medal, with four of the teams securing qualification for their events at the 2025 World Athletics Championships.

Other investments include customised aerodynamic suits for track cyclists that reduce drag and boost bike efficiency, alongside backing for AusTriathlon’s Ascent Academy, which provides both skilled and holistic development for identified future champions.

CGA CEO Craig Phillips AM emphasised how the distributed funding builds on previous success while driving preparations for upcoming competitions.

“With this $6.5 million now to be distributed, we’re leveraging the tremendous success of Period One to further strengthen our athletes’ preparations for Glasgow 2026,” Phillips said.

“Having achieved 78% of our initiative outcomes in Period One, this funding enables our program sports to build on that foundation and optimise their final preparations.”

Phillips also highlighted how the funding distribution supports sports development beyond the immediate Games cycle.

“By allocating $1 million to sports not on the Glasgow program, we’re supporting sports to actively develop emerging talent that will represent Australia in 2030 and beyond,” Phillips said.

“This distributed funding ensures we maintain a robust talent pipeline across the entire Commonwealth Sport Movement, keeping Australia competitive at future Games regardless of program changes.”

G2G2G supports CGA’s goal of making Australia the top nation at the Commonwealth Games in terms of gold and overall medals won, the number of medallists and the number of sports winning medals.

The Period Two distribution brings CGA’s total investment into athletes and their sports to $11.6 million for the current quadrennium, and more than $67 million since 1996.
