About the Chance
This is an outstanding opportunity for graduate solicitors looking to work with a high-profile legal team and kick-start your career with the Crown Solicitor's Office (CSO) in the SA Government. Successful applicants are placed in a pool and notified, if and when, suitable vacancies arise. Successful applications for the pool are valid for a period of twelve months for appointment to temporary positions for periods of up to 2 years. These roles may lead to longer term or ongoing appointments as vacancies arise.
To be eligible to apply for the Graduate Solicitor Pool, applicants must be admitted, or eligible for admission, as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia by 30th June 2026. Applicants must clearly state within their CV their current admission status / expected admission status. Reporting to the Crown Solicitor through the Assistant Crown Solicitor, your main responsibilities will be to provide high quality legal advice and representation on matters of ordinary complexity to clients of the CSO.
Responsibilities
Researching and preparing legal opinions and other written and oral advice on less complex matters of law
Preparing court documents, affidavits, letters and other legal documents
Contributing to client service excellence by responding to clients generally on various legal issues
Qualifications
To be successful, you'll be a graduate who has been admitted, or who is eligible for admission by 30th June 2026, as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia and will have general knowledge that covers a broad spectrum of legal areas.
In addition, you will have a theoretical and practical understanding of litigious and non-litigious processes. Academic results, work history/experience, knowledge of the CSO and community experience will all be considered. Applicants must submit a current CV, a maximum two-page cover letter addressing the Technical Expertise (Essential) within the Job & Person Specification and a copy of their academic transcript.
About the Business
The Crown Solicitor's Office, through the Attorney-General, provides legal services to government, Ministers, agencies and departments, including legal advice, representation before courts and tribunals, negotiating commercial contracts, drafting and production of legal documents, counsel for the conduct of summary prosecutions and Magistrates' appeals, native title claim management, land conveyancing and investigation.
Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.
Some out of hours work may be required.
Must currently possess or be eligible to obtain a practicing certificate within South Australia by 30th June 2026.
