Marine Rescue Whitfords and DFES provide comprehensive training and the opportunity to earn your Short Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (SROCP) qualification.Our volunteers deliver a vital marine radio service every day of the year during daylight hours, ensuring the safety of boaters along our coastline.ResponsibilitiesMonitor three marine radio channels (16, 77 and 81)Provide the log-on/log-off serviceFollow set procedures for overdue vesselsCoordinate operations and communicate with Marine Rescue assets during incidentsAs part of our team, you'll join the Marine Rescue Whitfords family – more than 120 active volunteers who share a passion for safety, teamwork, and service to the community.
Its an exciting time to get involved, as we've recently welcomed a new rescue vessel to our fleet and are preparing to move into a state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility at Ocean Reef Marine.CommitmentRegular – more than 6 monthsTime Required: Commitment is 1–2 half-days per month but can be more if desired.
The majority of radio operators train on weekends, but there is opportunity to train mid-week.TrainingTraining is on the job as part of a small team with experienced operators.
