Road worker asphalt leading hand | full time permanent (canberra)

Roads ACT is currently seeking a skilled and experienced Asphalt Leading Hand to join our team for carrying out general road maintenance duties.

Under limited supervision, you will be responsible for training new staff and overseeing the work of the team in coordination with the asphalt ganger, employing an independent approach and displaying a high degree of initiative.

The tasks encompass the provision of trade and equivalent level guidance and providing assistance to other members of a work team, including estimating materials for jobs, planning daily works in absence of the asphalt ganger. The role will oversee the completion of maintenance records.

• Traffic controller (TCR) - Essential or ability to obtain within six months of appointment.
• Implement traffic control plans (IMP) - Essential or ability to obtain within six months of appointment.
• CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry - Essential (at time of appointment and before commencement)
• 11084NAT - Course in Asbestos Awareness - Essential (at time of appointment and before commencement)
• 10830NAT - Course in Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention - Essential (at time of appointment and before commencement)
• HLTAIDO11 – Provide First Aid - Essential or ability to obtain within six months of appointment.
• Driver's licence class C - Essential (at time of appointment and before commencement)
• Driver's licence class MR - Essential or ability to obtain within six months of appointment.

Applicants are made aware that the essential requirements to be obtained within the six‐month period are a mandatory requirement to successfully complete the probation and to be appointed permanently to this position.

Roads ACT will support the successful applicant through the training requirements by organising up to two sessions at the cost to Roads ACT.

Should additional attempts be required to obtain the applicable licence/certificate in the six‐month period, the costs to acquire these will be borne by the successful applicant.
