We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the mechanical design of next modules or chassis, addressing challenges in high-port-density switches, including structure, cooling, EMC, safety, manufacturability, cost, appearance, tolerances, documentation, and adherence to product families, under tight schedules.
What You'll Do
This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and is responsible for the mechanical design of the next module or chassis to bring to market. You will work with a cross-functional team to ensure the end solution meets customer needs and is brought to market quickly.
* Explore solutions suggested by team members and add new solutions that balance all requirements.
* Implement the selected design using Creo 3D CAD and provide the necessary drawings, critical dimensions, and 3D files for prototyping and manufacturing.
* Schedule and manage peer and cross-functional reviews of your design and participate in reviews of other engineers' designs.
* Structure bill of materials (BOM), release and change the product using product lifecycle management tools (Agile).
* Provide 3D models for thermal simulations and PCB design drawings/3D files to the ECAD team. Work with electrical engineers and PCB layout to address placement concerns and verify PCB final design.
* Collaborate with contract manufacturers (CMs) and suppliers to address DFM concerns.
* Work in the lab to validate prototypes against the 3D MCAD design and debug issues.
* Communicate manufacturing issues found in the lab to the CM.
* Travel to suppliers to troubleshoot issues or assist with expediting builds as required.
* Participate in cross-functional team meetings to resolve production sustaining issues.
Qualifications
* BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering with 7 years of experience.
* Relevant experience in mechanical design of computer/network equipment for data centers is preferred.
* Experience with ECO, BOM and Deviation processes; Agile experience is a plus.
* Experience using Pro/ENGINEER (PTC Creo) is a plus.
* Experience with Mechanica (PTC Creo Simulate) is a plus.
* Experience with thermal simulation and airflow testing is a plus.
* Experience with liquid cooling systems is a plus.
* Experience designing sheet metal parts using soft and hard tooling guidelines.
* Plastic part design for cosmetic and non-cosmetic uses.
* Familiarity with PDMLink (PTC Windchill) is a plus.
* Hands-on experience with tests (shock, vibration, EMC, etc.) is a plus.
* Ability to lift weight upwards of 50 pounds.
* Fluent in English.
