Role Type: 12-month full time contract

Salary: $124,071 - $134,292 per annum plus superannuation


The opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced and motivated Finance Business Partner to join the Stem Cell Medicine (SCM) Theme and the reNEW Melbourne Node at Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.

Reporting within the SCM Operations Team, the Finance Business Partner provides end-to-end financial leadership and oversight across the Stem Cell Medicine Theme and reNEW Melbourne Node. As the primary point of contact for all finance-related matters, you will partner closely with Principal Investigators, program leaders, and central finance teams to deliver strategic financial advice, robust governance, and high-quality reporting.

You will play a key role in budgeting, forecasting, grant management, financial reporting, and compliance across multiple complex research projects, while also supporting the establishment and growth of a major international research collaboration.


What you’ll do

* Provide strategic financial advice to Theme and Node leadership to support informed decision-making
* Develop and manage annual budgets and multi-year forecasts across multiple cost centres
* Monitor expenditure, analyse trends, and provide real-time financial insights
* Authorise expenditure in line with approved budgets and funding agreements
* Manage foreign currency considerations for international grants
* Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, statements, and grant acquittals
* Complete month-end processes including journals, cost centre adjustments, and salary allocations
* Support payroll accounting, accruals, and reconciliations
* Assist with general ledger and intercompany reconciliations in collaboration with central finance
* Ensure compliance with grant terms, internal policies, and accounting standards
* Liaise with the Grants Office to ensure correct allocation and tracking of research funds
* Provide guidance to researchers on allowable expenditure, reporting obligations, and funding availability


You will have:

* CPA or CA qualification (or equivalent)
* Demonstrated experience in grants management, financial reporting, and financial governance
* Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and GST legislation
* Experience with payroll accounting, cash flow, and investment management
* Proven stakeholder engagement and business partnering capability
* Ability to manage multiple priorities with agility and sound judgement


About the Stem Cell Medicine Theme & renew

The Stem Cell Medicine Theme at MCRI focuses on translating cutting-edge stem cell research into medical outcomes for patients, using advanced technologies such as gene editing, transcriptomics, and bioengineering.
