Primary objective
Assist in the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation, of national and Northern Territory vocational
education and training (VET) priorities.
Context statement
The Skills Strategy unit, within the Department of Education and Training, functions are to facilitate the growth of a skilled,
agile and capable workforce to meet the community and economic needs of the Territory now and into the future.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Preparation of well written documentation including briefings, reports, ministerial correspondence, submissions etc
within a tight timeframe and undertake research as required to inform the political and business environment.
1. Support and provide input into the implementation of the workforce and skilling agenda in line with national and
Northern Territory Government priorities.
1. Assist in the development, implementation and management of diverse projects and initiatives that support growing a
more skilled workforce.
1. Monitor and update program policies and procedures as required and contribute to workforce planning and policy
development aligned with the national agenda.
1. Build and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders across industry, government,
training organisations and other relevant stakeholders at local and national levels.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated written and oral communication skills to meet the requirements of a wide range of audiences and provide
clear and considered policy and strategic advice.
2. Experience in policy planning and development, including project and program management, with proven ability to
monitor progress and report as required.
3. Ability to research effectively, interpreting the political, social and organisational environment of the workforce and VET
sector.
4. Proven ability to think conceptually, apply analytical and problem-solving skills and develop practical evidence-based
advice.
5. High level organisation skills and experience in working in a high demand sensitive environment subject to changing
priorities and deadlines.
6. Demonstrated capability in cultivating productive working relationships and networks with internal and external
stakeholders and clients.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of issues and trends relevant to the Northern Territory workforce and the VET system.
2. Qualifications in public policy or other relevant disciplines is highly desirable.
