Primary objective
Assist the Farm Manager to conduct the daily farm operations of the Victoria River Research Station.
Context statement
The Victoria River Research Station provides facilities to conduct agricultural research and extension; this position assists
with maintaining research trials and ensures the farm is research ready, and that animal welfare and Work Health and
Safety requirements are met.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist the Farm Manager with the day-to-day operations of the Victoria River Research Station.
2. Conduct farm operations, livestock management, and farm maintenance activities.
3. Assist the Farm Manager to facilitate the activities of different research and extension projects conducted on the farm.
4. Maintain close liaison with research staff working on the Station.
5. Assist in extension activities involving research stations such as field days and demonstrations.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. An appropriate Associate Diploma or Certificate in Agriculture or a related field, and/or considerable relevant
experience.
2. Proven experience in the operation and maintenance of farm equipment, machinery, and infrastructure.
3. Sound knowledge of the north Australian cattle industry and demonstrated experience with cattle handling and cattle
station operations.
4. A sound understanding of safe work practices with farm management, machinery operation, livestock operations,
and in workshop situations.
5. NT driver's licence and ability to drive a 4WD vehicle.
6. Ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Hold a current HR NT drivers' licence.
2. Hold a current First Aid Certificate or have the ability to obtain and maintain this qualification.
3. Hold a ChemCert or SmarTrain Certificate or have the ability to obtain and maintain this qualification.
