The RoleMake a difference in our community

An exciting opportunity exists to join the Whittlesea Council Building Services Team. We are looking for an enthusiastic and team focused person to fill the role of Deputy MBS, in this statutory and operationally critical position, to provide delegated authority and support to the Municipal Building Surveyor (MBS). You will contribute to the effective delivery of Council's building control functions through leadership, technical expertise, and strategic decision-making.

In this role, you will:

* Support the MBS and Council in managing complex regulatory and compliance matters under the Building Act 1993 and the Local Government Acts 1989 and 2020.
* Provide technical and leadership mentoring to staff within the building services team, ensuring best-practice processes and quality outcomes.
* Act under full delegation in the MBS's absence as well as in supporting support the delagtion function o maintain statutory service delivery and decision-making continuity.
* The DMBS deputises performing the statutory functions of Council's Municipal Building Surveyor (MBS) as required, ensuring continuity of leadership and decision-making across the function and act under full delegation in the MBS's absence.
* Contribute to Council's emergency call-out roster, supporting life safety and critical incident management within the community.
* Represent Council in high-risk and compliance matters, including court proceedings and technical assessments.

About youYou are a confident and collaborative leader with a sound understanding of building legislation, strong technical judgment, and a commitment to community safety. You bring:

* Current registration as a Building Surveyor Unlimited with the Building and Plumbing Commission.
* Demonstrated experience in building control, statutory decision-making, and regulatory compliance.
* Proven leadership, mentoring, and problem-solving skills within a multidisciplinary team environment.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to interpret and apply complex legislation
