You will be part of a close knit enthusiastic team providing professional care and support to bereaved families through all attributes of the funeral process.
We are currently seeking a well presented, hardworking individual to fill a Funeral Director Assistant role performing duties such as assisting with the transfer of the deceased into care on a 24/7 roster, assisting on funeral services, performing mortuary care, vehicle maintenance, cleaning duties, gardening and maintenance duties as required.
Previous experience is preferred however experience in the funeral industry is not essential, just a keen willingness to learn the funeral industry. Training will be provided in all aspects of the job.
Job Tasks
Transfer of deceased persons from private homes, aged care facilities, hospitals and accidental/sudden death scenes. You will manually handle/touch the deceased, placing them onto a transfer stretcher and then transport them in a vehicle back to a required destination.
Some locations that are visited may have stairs or impeded access - but a manual lift of the deceased is required in a number of circumstances. The successful applicant will be fit and able to complete this lifting task with another team member.
Scenes that we transfer from, due to the nature of the persons death, may be very confronting. The successful applicant will need to understand and accept this part of the position.
Performing mortuary care to the deceased.
Interment and installation of ashes and plaques within the memorial gardens.
Operation of machinery and equipment through all stages of the cremation process.
Assist Funeral Directors on funeral services.
Vehicle maintenance and cleaning
General cleaning and maintenance duties of all machinery and equipment within the funeral home environment.
General maintenance and upkeep of buildings, gardens and lawns including mowing, whipper snipping, weed spraying, fertilizing, pruning, painting and minor repair duties.
Participation in an after-hours on-call roster.
To be successful in this position, you will need to meet the following criteria:

Ability to follow instructions, listen and respond to families and staff needs.
Be physically fit as heavy lifting is required.
Provide a transfer service for deceased (including accident and sudden death)
High level of presentation, maintaining a well-groomed and professional appearance.
Ability to work in a team environment and autonomously.
Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgement and adapt quickly to changing and sometimes challenging circumstances.
Honest, reliable and able to understand and be respectful of circumstances involving grieving families, their values and beliefs.
Mature interpersonal, verbal, written, communication and organizational skills with a focus on exceptional customer service.
Hold a current valid Open Queensland Drivers Licence and reliable form of transport.
Currently fully immunized with Flu and Covid Vaccinations.
Must live in the immediate Gympie area (10 km radius) to fulfill on-call commitments.
Current Police check (or willing to obtain).
A genuine interest to learn, grow and understand the full funeral process and advance within the industry.
This is a full time position which offers a weekday, after hours and weekend role, with an above award salary and immediate start to the successful applicant.
