**TEAM ROLE**
The primary focus of the Alcohol and Drug Services Team is to provide a comprehensive range of
specialist treatments and supports to clients of BCHS and lead coordinated care internally and
externally across a multidisciplinary network. The team works within a social model of health
framework with an emphasis on provision of health promoting information and education with a
commitment to equity and access.
**POSITION ROLE**
The Nurse Practitioner - AOD Clinical Services is a registered nurse educated and authorised to
function with a high degree of autonomy and accountability whilst also working collaboratively in a
multidisciplinary team. The Nurse Practitioner role is grounded in the nursing profession's values,
knowledge, theories and practice.
The Nurse Practitioner role will provide comprehensive, evidence based advanced nursing practice,
including physical examinations, initiating diagnostic assessments, prescribing medications and
undertaking procedural skills and treatments, and referring to other clinicians.
The Nurse Practitioner will engage collaboratively with colleagues within BCHS and community
partners to ensure effective, flexible and well organised care of clients attending the AOD Clinical
Services. The Nurse Practitioner will provide nursing clinical leadership and act as a resource for
nursing and medical colleagues within BCHS.***
**POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Clinical Expertise/Skills**
- Provides advanced nursing assessment in the clinical management of pharmacotherapy clients,
including examination and diagnostic investigations, assessments and case management.
- Understands and practices the fundamental guiding principles when caring for clients who have
health needs associated with their AOD use.
- Understands and utilise evidence-based resources in clinical practice.
- In a framework of training and supervision, demonstrates a willingness to expand their scope of
practice in order to provide skills or procedures relevant to the care of AOD clients.
- Whilst practicing autonomously within a defined scope of practice, consults and/or refers to
other healthcare professionals when the client requires care outside the Nurse Practitioner's
scope of practice.
