Position Overview
The Environmental Consultant will support FINN Environmental's consultancy projects across Tasmania, providing technical expertise in environmental assessment, field surveys, compliance, and reporting. The role involves a mix of fieldwork, data analysis, client liaison, and report preparation, contributing to projects across a range of sectors including development, infrastructure, land management, and conservation.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Assessment & Fieldwork
* Undertake environmental field surveys, including flora and fauna assessments, habitat evaluations, and soil and water sampling.
* Collect, manage, and analyse environmental data in accordance with best practice and regulatory requirements.
* Assist with environmental impact assessments, environmental management plans, and monitoring programs.
Regulatory & Planning Support
* Support projects requiring approvals under Tasmanian and Commonwealth legislation, including:
* Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (Tas)
* Nature Conservation Act 2002 (Tas)
* Threatened Species Protection Act 1995 (Tas)
* Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth)
* Liaise with regulators such as the Tasmanian EPA, local councils, and relevant state agencies.
* Assist with permit applications, compliance reporting, and audit processes.
Consultancy & Client Engagement
* Provide clear, practical environmental advice to clients.
* Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
* Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical audiences.
Reporting & Documentation
* Prepare high-quality technical reports, assessments, and correspondence.
* Maintain accurate project records and field notes.
* Contribute to proposals, scopes of work, and project planning as required.
Selection Criteria
Essential
* Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Geology, Marine Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing.
* Demonstrated understanding of Tasmanian environmental legislation and approval processes.
* Experience undertaking environmental fieldwork.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.
* Current driver's licence and willingness to undertake fieldwork across Tasmania.
Desirable
* Previous experience in environmental consultancy.
* Experience working in Tasmanian terrestrial, freshwater, or coastal environments.
* GIS skills and experience with environmental data analysis.
* Knowledge of threatened species assessments, planning schemes, and environmental offsets.
