Ranger Marine Job Opportunity

This is a chance to join our team in the remote and complex Kimberley Region, known for its natural beauty and cultural significance. The region offers many unique opportunities to explore and enjoy world-class natural and cultural attractions as well as appreciate the wilderness values of the area.

As a Ranger Marine, you will carry out programmed operational activities and field logistical support within the North Kimberley Marine Park and coastal and island reserves in the East Kimberley District; including:

- Participating in the delivery of programs for parks and visitor services and conservation, including visitor risk management, commercial operator liaison, emergency response, mitigation works, and the delivery of research and monitoring programs as directed.
- Conducting compliance patrols, maintaining and skippering departmental vessels and upkeep of equipment.
- Assisting with the development and delivery of education and interpretive works programs. Implementing works programs consistent with departmental guidelines, policies and management plans as directed.

This role requires operational planning skills and knowledge of vessel operations and logistics. You must also have good interpersonal skills for effective patrol and enforcement activities and liaison with the public, commercial tourism operators, community groups, Indigenous groups, other government agencies and stakeholders.

Selection Criteria

Applicants should address the following three (3) criteria in their application:

- Ability to participate in and implement operational plans and works programs associated with visitor management and natural resource management with an emphasis on the marine and coastal environment.
- Knowledge of vessel operations and logistics, and experience in skippering of vessels up to 12 metres in length with a preference for a Certificate of competency - Coxswain Class 1 (Near Coastal).
- Good interpersonal skills for effective patrol and enforcement activities, and liaison with the public, commercial tourism operators, community groups, Indigenous groups, other government agencies and stakeholders.
