Position Summary

The Internal Sales Engineer provides technical and commercial support to the sales team, developing accurate proposals and supporting customers across automation and control solutions for the oil & gas, natural resources, and coal mining industries. The role acts as the key interface between customers, external sales, engineering, and operations—translating application requirements into compliant, competitive solutions within an engineered-to-order manufacturing environment.
The position supports the end-to-end sales process through order coordination, documentation control, and internal communication, ensuring customer requirements are clearly defined and orders progress efficiently to execution.
Key Responsibilities
* 1) Technical & Proposal Support
o Develop accurate quotations and proposals aligned with company standards, scope, and compliance obligations
o Review customer enquiries, specifications, and drawings to determine technical and commercial requirements
o Clarify technical requirements with customers and internal engineering teams as required
o Support external sales with application knowledge and solution positioning
* 2) Sales Process & Order Management
o Manage enquiries from receipt through quotation, clarification, and order conversion
o Ensure all customer requirements, assumptions, and exclusions are clearly documented
o Process orders accurately, ensuring alignment between quotation, purchase order, contract, and scope of works
o Maintain disciplined documentation control within ERP/CRM systems
o Assist with invoicing milestones and progress billing as required
o Support reporting on sales activity, order intake, backlog, and performance metrics
* 3) Internal Coordination
o Liaise with engineering, procurement, production, and quality teams to confirm scope, lead times, and feasibility
o Identify technical, commercial, or delivery risks early and escalate appropriately
o Support smooth handover from sales to execution to enable on-time delivery.
* 4) Customer & Commercial Support
o Provide timely responses to customer technical and commercial queries
o Support variations, scope changes, and post-order clarifications as required
o Track order status and coordinate updates with customers and sales representatives
o Contribute to customer satisfaction through accuracy, responsiveness, and professionalism
o Support contract review processes and assist with identifying commercial or contractual exceptions
* 5) Continuous Improvement
o Identify opportunities to improve quotation accuracy, turnaround time, and sales processes
o Contribute to standardisation of templates, pricing tools, and technical libraries
o Collect client feedback, conduct routine customer satisfaction surveys
o Maintain records and support compliance with ISO 9001 quality management system
* 6) Market & Product Knowledge
o Stay current on automation technologies, industry regulations, and competitive offerings
o Understand customer applications in oil & gas production, mining operations, material handling, and natural resource processing
o Support product standardization and modularization efforts to improve speed and consistency
Required Qualifications
1) Education
* Certificate, Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations, Engineering Technology, or a related field
* Equivalent experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment may be considered
2) Experience
* 2–5+ years of experience in:
* Industrial automation and control strongly preferred
* OEM manufacturing, industrial equipment, or engineered-to-order environments
* Technical sales, sales administration, order management, or customer service
* Experience supporting oil & gas, mining, or heavy industrial customers strongly preferred
3) Technical & Soft Skills
* Familiarity with industrial or technical products preferred
* Ability to read and understand basic technical documents (scope of supply, drawings, specifications)
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation
* Understanding of commercial terms, incoterms, and basic contract principles is a plus
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear customer-facing language
* Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
* Customer-focused mindset with a sense of urgency
* Ability to manage multiple quotes and priorities simultaneously
* Collaborative team player with engineering and operations
4) Software & Systems
* CRM and ERP systems (XERO, SAP would be useful)

5) Work Environment & Travel
1. Full-time, on-site role in an office environment
2. Occasional travel to client sites, trade shows, or internal facilities (typically
