A glazier's role at Newcastle Glass Pty Ltd involves manufacturing high-quality glass products and preparing them for installation, aligning with the primary responsibilities outlined as follows:
·Accurately determining the type and dimensions of glass required for specific applications and cutting glass to exact specifications using manual and computer-controlled equipment.
·Shaping, smoothing, and polishing glass edges with belt sanders, smoothing wheels, and polishing machines to ensure safety and quality.
·Inspecting glass for defects, chips, and impurities and marking or discarding faulty pieces to maintain strict quality standards.
·Processing and treating glass through laminating, toughening, water jet cutting, painting, coating, etching, trimming, and other specialised techniques to achieve strength, safety, and design outcomes.
·Preparing glass panels and components for installation by ensuring all products meet required specifications, compliance standards, and customer requirements.
·Handling, moving, and storing glass safely within the factory and on-site to minimise breakage and workplace hazards.
·Fitting and installing glass into structures such as windows, doors, partitions, shower screens, balustrades, and façades using glazing systems, adhesives, and sealants.
·Repairing and replacing glass as required to maintain the integrity, safety, and appearance of structures.
Skilled and experience requirements:
·Minimum of two (2) years' experience working as a Glazier.
·Completion of an AQF Certificate III in Glass and Glazing, which typically involves at least two years of structured training, or an AQF Certificate IV in a related field or A minimum of three years of relevant work experience may substitute for formal qualifications where applicable.
·Demonstrated ability to operate a wide range of glazing tools and machinery for cutting, finishing, shaping, toughening, laminating, and treating glass.
·Strong attention to detail in measuring, marking, and preparing glass to ensure compliance with specifications and high-quality outcomes.
·Comprehensive knowledge of workplace health and safety practices, including safe handling, transport, and installation of glass products.
·Ability to identify defects, recommend appropriate treatments or replacements, and provide effective glazing solutions.
·Strong communication and teamwork skills to liaise with supervisors, tradespeople, and clients to meet project requirements.
·Good English communication skills: bilingual ability is an advantage.
