Are you a passionate lactation expert committed to strengthening the health and wellbeing of families? We are seeking an experienced and self‑directed Clinical Midwife Consultant – Breastfeeding Support to support our breastfeeding services and champion excellence in infant feeding care across WGHG.
In this pivotal role, you will operate as an autonomous practitioner, providing advanced, evidence‑based clinical breastfeeding support for individuals and families across our hospital and community settings. You will be a trusted specialist resource for parents, midwives, nurses and medical staff, delivering expert assessment, education, and guidance from pregnancy through to weaning.
As a key clinician, you will also drive our organisational commitment to high‑quality, family‑centred care. This includes overseeing the development and implementation of infant‑feeding policies, coordinating our Baby Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI) accreditation activities, and advancing continuous improvement in breastfeeding outcomes.

Casuals are employed on an 'as needs' basis to backfill leave and extra shifts on days, nights and weekends. Casual positions do not include regular hours.

Our preferred candidate will have:
* Current registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board
* Post graduate qualification in lactation.
* Current certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultation.
* Substantial professional midwifery and lactation experience.
* Experience with Baby Friendly Health Initiative requirements.
* Experience in the provision of education services.
* Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel & EMR
The following experience/qualifications would be considered advantageous:
* Experience with policy development.
* Previous experience in a Breastfeeding Support area.
* Knowledge of privacy legislation and document control.
* Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or relevant education qualification.
* Frenotomy credentialing.
IMPORTANT:Some roles in the healthcare sector are required to be vaccinated annually for Influenza (unless a valid exemption applies). Evidence of vaccination (or exemption) will be required to be provided prior to commencement.
