The World Mosquito Program, an initiative of Monash University, is a not-for-profit global leader dedicated to protecting communities from devastating mosquito-borne diseases like dengue, Zika, yellow fever, and chikungunya. We use a safe, naturally occurring bacteria called Wolbachia to reduce the ability of mosquitoes to transmit these viruses. Our innovative, non-GMO, and cost-effective method has already protected 13.3 million people across 14 countries, with a demonstrated 77% reduction in dengue incidence in treated areas in Indonesia. About the role
As a Senior Scientific & Technical Advisor, you will lead scientific and operational strategies that shape new and ongoing projects across Asia and Oceania. Drawing on your deep experience in entomology and field deployment, among other in Indonesia, you will work across teams and borders to help scale up our innovative Wolbachia-based solution.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Delivery, you will play a critical role in project design, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge sharing — turning scientific insights into impactful public health interventions.
Key Responsibilities
* Identify, design, and support implementation of Wolbachia deployment strategies across the Asia-Pacific region with a dedicated focus on Indonesia.
* Lead knowledge transfer from large-scale operations in countries such as Indonesia to strengthen WMP global practices.
* Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders — including governments, NGOs, universities, and suppliers — to support project success.
* Deliver scientific and technical guidance across WMP's global portfolio, and troubleshoot field challenges with agility and innovation.
* Conduct entomological and operational analyses and lead pilot trials to explore innovations in mosquito release and monitoring.
Who We're Looking For:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional with the following skills and experience:
* PhD in Entomology, Biology, or related field (or Masters with equivalent extensive field experience)
* Minimum 10 years' experience in mosquito biology and vector control, with at least 3 years specifically in Wolbachia deployment
* Deep, hands-on experience with field projects in regions scaling Wolbachia, especially Indonesia
* A proven ability to work across teams, cultures, and disciplines to align goals and deliver results
* Strong analytical skills and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset
* Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with a wide range of partners
* Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesian.
