Your new company
Join a respected, purpose‑driven non‑profit delivering national leadership in mental health policy, workforce advocacy and system reform. With a strong values base and a commitment to improving mental health outcomes for communities across Australia, this organisation partners closely with government, medical leaders, peak bodies and lived‑experience voices to influence evidence‑informed public policy.
You'll be part of a collaborative, inclusive, high‑trust team environment where flexibility, autonomy and meaningful impact are part of everyday work.
Your new role
As the Policy & Advocacy Advisor for NSW, based in the Inner-West, you will step into a highly influential role, shaping mental health policy and is central to driving the organisation's advocacy agenda.
Working closely with various stakeholders, committees, and national policy colleagues, you'll:
Lead state‑based policy analysis, monitoring crucial political, legislative and system developments, and ensuring key decision‑makers are well‑briefed.
Prepare policy submissions, pre‑budget and pre‑election proposals, advocacy briefs, government correspondence and consultation responses.
Drive advocacy strategies and campaigns, identifying opportunities to influence Ministers, Members of Parliament, state agencies and health stakeholders.
Draft media releases, digital content and public statements in collaboration with communications teams.
Build strong, trusted relationships with clinicians, internal stakeholders, senior government contacts and external partners.
Represent the organisation in external meetings and forums to elevate NSW priorities and support system reform efforts.
Help shape and contribute to high‑impact projects like budget submissions and state‑wide advocacy activities.
Day‑to‑day, this is a role for someone who thrives at the intersection of policy, politics and public purpose. You will need to stay close to the NSW political environment, understand who holds influence, read signals, and move quickly on emerging opportunities.
What you'll need to succeed
Experience in public policy and advocacy, (desirable experience would be someone from public health, mental health, social policy, or Government setting).
Strong political awareness and ability to navigate the NSW policy landscape.
Demonstrated experience developing policy submissions, consultation responses, media material and advocacy briefs.
High‑level written and verbal communication skills, able to distil complex information into accessible, influential content.
Ability to build productive relationships across committees, clinicians, government, community and partner organisations.
Strong organisation, prioritisation and project management skills.
Ability to work autonomously and comfortably manage your own workload in a high‑trust environment.
Desirable: Qualifications in health, social sciences, public policy, political science or related fields.
What you'll get in return
You'll enjoy a generous suite of benefits and a genuinely supportive culture, including:
Hybrid working – 3 days from home.
Monthly Rostered Day Off (RDO) – no additional hours required.
Salary packaging, boosting take‑home pay by approximately $6,000–$8,000 per year.
Gifted leave over Christmas, typically 3 additional paid days + ability to align with RDOs for extended holiday breaks.
Flexible working hours – outcomes‑focused rather than clock‑focused.
Autonomy and trust – no micromanagement; you manage your workload with full support.
Purpose‑driven work – contribute directly to improving mental health outcomes across NSW.
Supportive, values‑aligned team with strong collaboration across states and functions.
Occasional travel opportunities to engage in advocacy activities or attend interstate meetings.
Exposure to a respected CEO known for being down‑to‑earth, pragmatic and supportive.
This is a unique opportunity to apply your policy and advocacy expertise to issues that matter deeply to the community — and to do so in an environment that genuinely values flexibility, wellbeing and impact.
