 
        
        **Your responsibilities 
As the Principal Media Officer, you will:
- Lead, develop and execute media strategies that engage audiences through a variety of traditional and emerging media channels, collaborating with experts in other communications fields to amplify the message. 
- Identify, plan and produce proactive opportunities to promote the work of the department. 
- Produce a range of high-quality media and communication content including (but not limited to) responses, releases, talking points, speeches, briefing notes, articles, scripts, presentations, social media, digital and AV. 
- Provide media advice, training and support to spokespeople, departmental staff and stakeholders. 
- Liaise and build relationships with ministerial advisors, senior executives, government peers, external organisations and media outlets. 
- Analyse media outcomes, using data to measure success and identify areas for improvement. 
- Maintain currency with the latest technologies, techniques and networks to deliver innovative and improved media services and strategies. 
- Lead and undertake media reporting and monitoring tasks in a rostered rotation. 
- Actively engage in a team environment and positive culture, by demonstrating our core values, celebrating success, and committing to continued learning and development. 
- Maintain processes and governance. 
- Mentor junior staff. 
- Provide support for events or critical incidents which may require work outside of standard hours or on-call availability. 
- Contribute as required to the broader strategic communication function within the department.
About you 
We're looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- Excellent research, written and editorial skills in developing the range of content required for the department and Minister's Office. 
- That you have strong, respectful and collaborative relationships with journalists, peers and stakeholder networks. 
- An innovative approach to content creation for high-level, wide-reaching projects. 
- Resilience, responsiveness and adaptability when priorities are evolving or changing. 
- Solid project management skills, including the ability to successfully define priorities, coordinate activities and deliver results within specified timeframes and budgets. 
- Critical thought and risk analysis. 
- A track record of gathering and using audience insights and data to drive bestpractice outcomes
