Newcastle West, NSW, AU, 2302**About the M1 South - Blackhill to Tomago Project**:
A joint venture between John Holland and Gamuda Australia has been selected by Transport for NSW to deliver the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace Southern Package - a key missing link in one of the country's busiest transport corridors.

The $1.029 billion southern package will deliver a 10-kilometre dual carriageway motorway extension between Black Hill and Tomago. There will be 8 bridges that include a 2.6km viaduct and new congestion-busting interchanges at Black Hill, Tarro and Tomago.

**About the role**:
We're currently looking for an experienced Construction **Sustainability Manager **to join our M1 Project based in Newcastle. You will be responsible for establishing and meeting the objectives in the Sustainability Management Plan (SMP) and ensuring compliance with relevant environmental and sustainability legislation, regulations, contractual obligations and third-party verifications such as ISC.

You will be responsible for training and upskilling of team to sustainability best practices standards and leading sustainable innovation on the Project.

**What you will do**:

- Develop and manage the project Sustainability Management Plan and ensure that the project team understands the requirements in relation to their areas of work.
- Provide technical advice to project leadership teams in areas of Sustainability risk and controls and support them to meet all requirements.
- Collaborate with the Risk and Assurance teams to ensure that major sustainability risks related to works on site are captured and appropriate and effective mitigation strategies are developed.
- Develop standards for regular reporting on key Sustainability performance objectives, non-conformances and standards for managing project sustainability risks, including tracking metrics against the Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) Rating tool;
- Manage Sustainability budget allocation as required to ensure sustainability requirements are delivered in a cost-effective manner.
- Management of sustainability design consultants and the collection of ISC compliant information
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all relevant legal, regulatory and company sustainability requirements, ensuring management and staff are kept informed of any relevant changes to project requirements.
- Help to create and support a climate that encourages environmental and sustainability innovation through the business.
- Identifying and implementing opportunities to improve sustainability outcomes in both construction and operation.
- Working in collaboration with the design, procurement and construction teams and disciplines to embed sustainability into project delivery.

**To be successful in this role**:

- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related discipline
- ISAP/ GSAP registered.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in Sustainability Management, preferably in large infrastructure projects, particularly roads, rail, or tunnels.
- Understanding of sustainability rating schemes and standards
- Knowledge of tender requirements, project planning, development, implementation and review.
- Ability to lead high level investigations involving multiple internal and external parties.
- Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative environmental risk assessment and development of risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects.
