About the Position

As the Lecturer in Indigenous Knowledges – Language & Culture Education, you will be contributing to the academic teaching and research goals of the Faculty of Arts and Society and the First Nations Teacher Education Hub by delivering high-quality education, advancing research in Indigenous Knowledge and Education, and fostering strong partnerships with First Nation communities.

This role involves lecturing with the language and culture teaching programs within the Faculty of Arts and Society, particularly in Indigenous Knowledge and Indigenous Education, as well as leading initiatives that support the development and delivery of innovative programs through the First Nations Teacher Education Hub. The position also plays a key role in curriculum development, and community engagement, ensuring that the educational offerings are culturally responsive and aligned with the needs and aspirations of First Nation communities.

The position requires a deep commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy and the ability to engage with and support First Nations students across varying educational contexts. The successful candidate will be expected to lead and innovate within their teaching practice, fostering a learning environment that respects and integrates Indigenous knowledge systems and pedagogies.

About You

To be successful, you will require:

- A Higher Degree by Research or coursework Master in a relevant discipline and/or relevant professional experience in the fields of Indigenous Knowledge and Indigenous Education or ability to enroll in Research or Masters coursework.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current Indigenous social, cultural, political, and economic issues, particularly about Indigenous education and the application of this knowledge in current contexts locally, nationally, and internationally.
- Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively and independently to sustain high-level performance, prioritisation, and work under pressure.
- Have an emerging research profile of publications/research projects or progress towards a research plan.
- Demonstrated capacity and commitment to undertake research related to Indigenous Knowledge and Indigenous Education.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated understanding of a university learning workplace and equity programs and providing supportive education to people from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds and varying age groups.
- Demonstrated high-level competencies and proven ability to teach specialisations in relation to Indigenous Knowledge and Indigenous Education; and the ability to manage unit (subject) teaching in internal and distance education modes, including through online platforms.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of current digital literacies development and practices in education. The ability to represent the University at a range of forums and to liaise, communicate, negotiate, and collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and partners to deliver a valued service and achieve agreed outcomes.
- Demonstrated capability to develop curriculum using the Australian Qualifications Framework and create 21st-century learning experiences for higher education students.
- Excellent professional teamwork and communication skills, including oral, written, information communication technology (ICT), and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated experience working with First Nations Language and Culture Education in the NT

Remuneration

Appointment to this role will be at HE Academic Level B. The base salary will be in the range of $116,429– $137,659 per annum. The total remuneration package will be in the range of $136,221- $161,061 per annum, including 17% superannuation.
