I'm recruiting for a Field Services Technician to work across large-scale solar projects throughout Australia. This role is ideally suited to an ex-electrician or an unlicensed electrical technician who enjoys hands-on field work, fault finding, and working with advanced control systems in the renewable energy sector.
Work Schedule
* 10/4 or 2/1 rotation (FIFO-style, project dependent)
* High-travel role – up to 100% travel across Australia
Key Responsibilities
* Test and commission solar tracking and control systems
* Carry out diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance
* Support site upgrades and system optimisation activities
* Complete commissioning, testing, and quality documentation
* Provide on-site and remote technical support to customers and site teams
* Assist with qualification and support of third-party O&M providers
* Participate in field testing of prototype and beta technologies
* Liaise with clients regarding remediation and warranty-related works
* Maintain strict adherence to WHS requirements and safe work practices
* Participate in incident reporting and continuous improvement initiatives
Essential Experience & Qualifications
* Trade background or technical qualification, or equivalent field experience
* Strong understanding of Australian WHS regulations, particularly within construction environments
* Experience working under JSA and SWMS
* Good customer-facing and communication skills
* Ability to work independently in remote field locations
* Experience with remote access and VPN technologies
* Strong working knowledge of Ethernet networks, IP-enabled devices, and wireless communications
* Proven electrical and controls fault-finding and troubleshooting capability
* Competent use of hand tools (torque wrenches, drills, laser levels, compressors, etc.)
* Proficiency with basic computer systems (Word, Excel, Outlook)
* Must be a current resident of Australia
Highly Desirable
* Ex-electrician (licensed or previously licensed) or unlicensed electrician background
* Experience in electrical commissioning, industrial maintenance, or construction
* Exposure to solar PV, renewables, or power generation environments
* Experience with control systems, PLCs, or SCADA (advantageous but not essential)
