First Nations Legal and Research Services (FNLRS) is a not-for-profit organisation that supports Victorian First Nations people to secure recognition of their rights and interests under the Commonwealth Native Title Act and Victorian Traditional Owner Settlement Act. The organisation also provides ongoing assistance to First Nations communities to manage these rights and interests once recognised. Guided by an experienced Board of First Nations leaders and supported by a dedicated team of 23 staff, the organisation has delivered high quality services for more than two decades. As the only native title service provider in Victoria, FNLRS continues to achieve an impact far greater than its size.
With the introduction of the Advancing the Treaty Process and the set-up of the First People's Assembly of Victoria, new recognition pathways are emerging. No other jurisdiction in Australia offers First Nations people such a diversity of forums through which groups may be formally recognised by the State and by each another. These developments create opportunities for FNLRS to support Victorian First Nation people not only to obtain recognition of their land-based rights, but also to leverage those rights for stronger cultural, political, social, and economic outcomes aligned with their self-determined aspirations.
This is an exciting time for a new CEO to lead FNLRS - the opportunity to shape the organisation's future while building on its legacy of providing high-quality services to First Nations people.
Reporting to the Chairperson and Board, you will lead a dedicated multidisciplinary team while continuing to build on a positive, high performing organisational culture. You will work closely with the Board to strengthen governance, uphold compliance and actively manage organisational risk.
As the face of FNLRS, you will represent the organisation with integrity and build trusted relationships with First Nations communities and key government and non-government stakeholders. You will lead organisational growth and innovation within an evolving context, ensuring the organisation's financial sustainability while upholding the provision of high quality legal and research services.
You are an enthusiastic leader with high emotional intelligence recognised for your people-centred approach and ability to lead in a complex environment. As a strategic thinker and effective communicator, you excel at bringing people together, motivating teams, and guiding organisations through growth and change.
You offer sound financial judgement and a well-developed understanding of governance, compliance and managing organisational risk.
You bring deep insight into First Nations culture and history, along with knowledge of native title and the broader Victorian First Nations rights and recognition landscape.
You may be an experienced CEO or an accomplished senior leader ready for the next step in your career – don't miss out on this unique opportunity.
