Selection Criteria
* Demonstrates ability to select and apply current evidence based practice in the provision of Occupational Therapy practice in a multi-disciplinary special education setting.
* Relevant critical experience and/or knowledge or interest in the areas of paediatric disability practice, sensory processing and equipment prescription.
* Demonstrates ability to form collaborative partnerships with families, staff and community members from a range of professional and cultural backgrounds.
* Demonstrates ability to use initiative for problem solving, setting priorities with the caseload and time management.
Role
To work within the Mildura Specialist School's Therapy Framework to use collaborative, consultative and individualised models of service delivery as appropriate to students and PLC section needs.
To provide Occupational Therapy intervention through a variety of goal directed and therapeutic evidence based programs, to support students to access all areas of the school curriculum.
To ensure students' sensory processing needs are considered when planning programs, routines and activities. Assess students' sensory processing needs as required and make recommendations. Develop sensory programs and individualised sensory diets as relevant for students' needs.

Responsibilities
* Regularly consult with teachers and parents in relation to the progress of students.
* Provide written and verbal assessment and recommendations to teachers and parents where appropriate.
* Work in consultation with teaching teams to develop relevant occupation-based goals for classes.
* Provide professional development to staff of the school and the external community as requested/appropriate.
* Maintain and upgrade therapy resources in consultation within the multidisciplinary team.
* Ensure a high standard of work as guided by evidence practice and sound clinical reasoning.
* Meet regularly with the multidisciplinary team and other staff in structured meetings regarding ongoing development and strategic planning of service provision to students, staff, parents and community agencies.
* Keep accurate and relevant file notes for individual students and perform administrative duties.

Location Profile
Mildura Specialist School is located in the remote Sunraysia area in close proximity to the New South Wales and South Australian borders. As the only facility of its type in this large and remote geographical area it is a major resource for students with an intellectual disability. In the north, it caters for a number of students from New South Wales.
The nearest Victorian facilities of a similar type are at Swan Hill, 235 km to the southeast.
Students are taught in small groups, having access to teaching staff, many with special education qualifications, supported by teacher assistants and Allied Health staff who provide consultancy services for programs.
In developing Individual Learning Plans, consideration is given to each student's needs, strengths and interests. The curriculum is based on the Victorian Curriculum. A multi-sensory program operates for students with severe disabilities. Students in their last three years of school concentrate on a transitional program for post-school life. This may include vocational programs and/or the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning. Students are assessed on their individual goals twice each year.
The school is committed to providing a progressive, stimulating and safe school environment, which takes into account sound management practices, communication between all members of the community.
