The EWP Operator is responsible for the safe operation of elevated work platforms and execution of tasks at height within a water treatment plant environment in Tuggerah. The role requires strict compliance with Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations, site-specific procedures, and environmental controls due to the presence of hazardous substances, confined spaces, and live infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
1. EWP Operations
* Operate boom lifts, scissor lifts, and other EWPs in accordance with manufacturer instructions and site requirements.
* Conduct pre-start inspections, logbooks, and safety checks prior to use.
* Set up equipment considering ground conditions, overhead hazards, and proximity to live assets.
* Work in coordination with spotters and site personnel when operating in restricted or high-risk areas.
2. Working at Heights
* Perform all tasks at height in compliance with legislation and Codes of Practice.
* Use and inspect fall protection equipment including harnesses, lanyards, inertia reels, and anchor systems.
* Maintain continuous attachment (100% tie-off) where required.
* Ensure safe access/egress to elevated structures, tanks, pipework, and platforms.
3. Safety & Risk Management
* Follow Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
* Identify hazards including:
* Slips, trips (wet surfaces)
* Confined spaces
* Working near water and open tanks
* Stop work and report unsafe conditions immediately.
* Participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings.
4. General Site Duties
* Assist with installation, maintenance, or inspection works at height.
* Maintain housekeeping standards in operational areas.
* Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and site teams.
5. Documentation & Reporting
* Complete:
* Pre-start checklists
* Permits and risk assessments
* Incident and hazard reports
* Maintain up-to-date licences and site inductions.
Key Requirements
Qualifications & Licences (Mandatory)
* High Risk Work Licence – WP (Boom-type EWP over 11m)
* Working at Heights certification (current)
* Construction White Card
* Current driver’s licence
Highly Desirable
* Confined Space Entry certification
* First Aid / CPR
* Experience working on water or utilities infrastructure sites
* Knowledge of permit systems and LOTO procedures
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience operating EWPs in high-risk or industrial environments
* Experience working at heights on complex structures (tanks, pipe racks, platforms)
* Strong understanding of WHS legislation and risk controls
* Ability to interpret SWMS, permits, and site drawings
Physical & Environmental Requirements
* Ability to work at heights safely for extended periods
* Comfortable working in:
* Wet and humid environments
* Areas with chemical exposure (with PPE)
* Confined or restricted access areas
* Physically capable of manual handling within safe limits
Work Conditions
* Operational water treatment plant (live environment)
* Exposure to:
* Noise, chemicals, and weather conditions
* Elevated structures and restricted spaces
* May require shift work, overtime, or weekend work

Pay: $38.00 – $42.00 per hour
