Join our team as a Manager Sustainability and Animal Services at Glen Innes Severn Council!
Why This Role Will Inspire You As Manager Sustainability & Animal Services, you will lead a diverse portfolio that directly supports environmental stewardship, community safety and sustainable land management across the Glen Innes Severn region. This role oversees waste and resource recovery services, biosecurity and priority weed programs, and companion animal management — ensuring Council meets its statutory obligations while delivering contemporary, community‑focused services.
You will guide a multidisciplinary team and play a key role in strategic planning, operational delivery, regulatory compliance and service improvement across the portfolio.
Your Impact You will:
* Provide strategic leadership for the Sustainability and Animal Services portfolio, ensuring alignment with Council’s strategic plans and NSW legislative requirements.
* Lead the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of waste and resource recovery services, including collection contracts, transfer stations, landfills and waste education programs.
* Oversee biosecurity and priority weed functions in accordance with the NSW Biosecurity Act, ensuring effective inspection, compliance, education and enforcement programs.
* Provide leadership and oversight of companion animal management services under the Companion Animals Act, supporting community safety and amenity.
* Manage budgets, procurement, contracts and resource allocation to ensure strong financial governance and value for money.
* Build and maintain productive relationships with landholders, community groups, contractors, State agencies and regional partners.
* Provide clear, timely and professional advice to senior management, Councillors and the community.
* Lead and develop staff, fostering a positive, high‑performing and safety‑focused workplace culture.
What You Bring You will bring the below skills:
* Relevant professional experience with demonstrated capability to perform the requirements of the role
* Experience leading teams and delivering strategic and operational outcomes in waste and resource recovery services, with exposure to biosecurity, priority weeds and/or companion animal management
* Strong knowledge of NSW legislation relating to waste, biosecurity, priority weeds, companion animals and local government operations
* Proven leadership and people management capability, including building high‑performing teams and managing change
* Financial, procurement, project and contract management experience within a regulated environment
* Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement
* Current Class C Driver Licence
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
* Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, waste management, natural resource management, local government or a related discipline
* Experience managing biosecurity and priority weed programs in rural or regional settings
* Experience delivering waste and resource recovery services across diverse geographic areas
* Knowledge of contemporary best practice in sustainability, resource recovery and regulatory service delivery
* Experience working collaboratively with State agencies and regional partnerships
