We embrace diversity in thought and contribution and are committed to providing an equitable work environment, which is foundational to our core values and vital to our success.Our Critical Facilities Engineers operate, manage, maintain, and repair critical and non-critical power systems, HVAC, plumbing, fire control and suppression systems, and all site services, performing vendor support in a mission-critical environment.This role supports the overall functioning of the data center by maintaining and improving the facility’s critical infrastructure, including scheduled maintenance and ad hoc repairs/troubleshooting.We have sites in Rosehill, Silverwater, Mascot, and Alexandria. The position is suitable for a recently qualified Electrician (or nearing the end of their apprenticeship) or a developing Electrical Engineering Degree holder, capable of adapting quickly to a new environment. Our engineering team works across disciplines; after shadowing experienced colleagues, you will build confidence and experience within facility operations.Experience in data centers is welcomed but not required. A technical aptitude, willingness to develop expertise, hands-on service experience, and a positive attitude are highly regarded.Key responsibilities:Complete maintenance protocols, plans, and activities on time and accurately, including daily, weekly, and monthly site checks.Manage and oversee vendor activities for major works, repairs, and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and special systems.Perform minor modifications to mechanical, electrical, and special systems as needed.Ensure availability of spare parts for frequently used or long-lead-time items and maintain a critical spares register.Monitor and respond to BMS alarms per engineering policies, escalating and collaborating with Controls Engineering as needed.Oversee plumbing and fire suppression system vendor activities.Manage work approval processes for service providers, including briefings, work control, and final reviews.Update technical files and create switching schedules in cooperation with vendors and supervisors.Follow all safety standards and quality procedures, including incident management.Review processes and procedures, communicate deviations and proposed changes for follow-up.Develop and support training for IBX employees on engineering topics and processes.Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.Qualifications, key skills, and attributes:Willingness to learn all aspects of critical facilities engineering and adapt quickly.Electrical Trade Certificate or Degree Certified.Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and controls systems.Understanding troubleshooting and repairing basic mechanical or electrical systems.Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.Capability to acquire and maintain HV operator qualification and NV1 Security Clearance.Collaborative mindset with the drive to work autonomously when needed.Benefits of the role:Monday-Friday schedule at a static site, with many sites operating a 4-day week.Competitive salary, annual bonus, healthcare allowance or BUPA private health care.Career development opportunities, access to Equinix Global Ops Academy, and a structured career path.Onsite amenities including gyms, EV chargers, and various wellness and employee benefits.Equinix is committed to an inclusive employment process.
