The Don River Railway (DRR), operated by The Van Diemen Light Railway Society Inc., is a beloved heritage railway and a premier tourist attraction in Tasmania, dedicated to recreating living railway history. Our museum is a key component of the visitor experience, housing a unique collection of artefacts that tell the rich story of rail in Tasmania. Our Museum Guides are essential in bringing these stories to life for our diverse audience.
The Opportunity
We are seeking enthusiastic and engaging Museum Guides to volunteer their time to enhance our visitor experience. This is a front-facing role where your passion for history and excellent communication skills will shine. You will be responsible for conducting guided tours, answering visitor questions, and sharing compelling narratives about our railway heritage. If you enjoy public speaking, interacting with people of all ages, and have a keen interest in history, this is a highly rewarding opportunity to make a direct impact on our visitors' understanding and enjoyment.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Conduct engaging guided tours of the DRR museum and selected outdoor exhibits for various visitor groups.
Share accurate and interesting information about the history of Tasmanian railways and DRR's collection.
Answer visitor questions clearly and courteously, ensuring a positive and informative experience.
Assist with general museum visitor flow and ensure displays are well-presented.
Collaborate with the Museum Curator and other Visitor Services volunteers.
Adhere strictly to all DRR policies, including customer service and safety guidelines.
Contribute to a welcoming and educational museum environment.
