As an Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer (ACLO), you will be responsible for enhancing relationships between police and the local Aboriginal Community, as well as establishing effective communication and networks between the police, Aboriginal community, government and non-government agencies. In accordance with Special Measures of section 12 of the Equal Opportunities Act 2010, only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply. Your duties will include: Work in partnership with Aboriginal community groups, to develop and maintain knowledge of Aboriginal issues within the local area and maintain a contemporary knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures. Contribute to establishing effective communication and networking between Police members, local Aboriginal community members and other government and non-government agencies. Establish and maintain a positive partnership environment in which the Aboriginal community are encouraged to communicate and interact with Police members to proactively resolve issues and actively promote awareness of the role of Victoria Police within the local Aboriginal community. Assist in the developing, implementing and delivering appropriate training programs. Participate in the development and implementation of appropriate strategies to improve service delivery to customers based on customer needs. Attending to welfare needs and providing support to Aboriginal persons in custody working alongside Aboriginal Community Justice Program (ACJP) members. Prepare briefing notes and reports (if required). About You The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience: Demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community, including the historical and contemporary issues impacting on the community. Demonstrated community engagement and experience working with the Victorian Aboriginal community. Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to negotiate and articulate with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to demonstrate flexibility, initiative and adaptability to meet changing work requirements. Further Information: One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available, 20013311. VPS4 Salary range: $97,955 to $111,142 This position is located at the Bairnsdale Police Station, 45-47 Main Street, Bairnsdale. You are required to possess a current Victorian Driver Licence and hold a valid work permit or visa.
