The opportunity:
As our Senior Plant Breeder (Citrus) you will:
• Develop superior citrus fruit varieties and rootstocks with improved quality characteristics and strong consumer appeal in domestic and international markets.
• Design, develop and implement innovative and effective plant breeding approaches that delivers a pipeline for releasing new varieties.
• Work collaboratively with the Queensland and national citrus industries to evaluate and drive adoption of new varieties.
• Communicate research and development outputs and outcomes to all stakeholders including growers, industry associations, research partners, funders and the department.
• Foster and maintain relationships with international citrus researchers to support biosecurity preparedness for the Australian citrus industry.
• Build and maintain a portfolio of citrus breeding research projects.
• Lead and develop a small team of dedicated citrus researchers.
What are we looking for?
There are some qualifications that we see as essential. You must possess:
• A Degree in science, applied science or rural science from a recognized tertiary institution or equivalent academic qualifications in plant breeding, genetics or similar fields.
You may also have:
• Experience in applied horticultural research, project management, and hands-on field research.
• Experience in preparing and applying for plant breeders rights or similar IP protection would be highly regarded.
You must hold a current "C" class driver's licence.
