Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position within the Department of Emergency Medicine based at Wyong Hospital, though should the service requirements change the candidate may be required to work from other hospitals within the Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD).

Applicants should be a Fellow of the Australian/Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM) and / or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

Central Coast is comprised of the twin areas of Gosford and Wyong, positioned between Sydney and Newcastle, which are collectively expected to grow from the current approximate 300,000 to 450,000 population before 2030. The Local Health District has solid connections with both Royal North Shore Hospital and the University of Newcastle.

This position is an excellent opportunity for newly qualified FACEMs or those looking for a sea change to work in a busy mixed ED setting. Wyong Hospital Emergency Department sees between 70-75,000 patients per annum and continues to grow. Clinical work is varied and encompasses all aspects of contemporary emergency medicine for both adult and paediatric populations.

Responsibilities

- The successful candidate will join a large and dedicated group of Staff Specialists working within the department.
- FACEM coverage on the floor is made up of at least 3 and up to 7 FACEMs at any one time dependent on shift crossovers, providing an environment for peer learning and collaboration to support professional development.
- In undertaking a Staff Specialist role the successful applicant will have access to appropriate Clinical Support time to undertake non-clinical duties and further development and personal goals in Emergency Medicine.
- Clinical work includes all aspects of the practice in a busy ED setting for adult and paediatric patients.

Qualifications

- Medical Practitioner registered or able to be registered in Australia, inclusive of an unrestricted or 19AB exempted provider number.
- Recognised specialist qualifications, Fellow of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) and / or other equivalent specialist recognition. Applicants expecting to be awarded their fellowship within three months may be considered. If successful, appointment is contingent on formal completion of qualifications.
- Appropriate experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in Emergency Medicine
- Ability to work constructively and effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to lead and supervise medical and surgical trainees, residents and medical students; teaching the management of the deteriorating patient is advantageous.
- Demonstrated interest in quality improvement methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to competently complete core critical care procedures required forEmergency Medicine practice.
- Commitment to Caring for the Coast vision, goals and strategies, with behaviours aligned to NSW CORE Values and CCLHD Values and Behaviours charter.
