Role Details
The Youth and Family Practitioner is a role within Inclusion and Reform and is accountable to the Principal Youth and Family Practitioner, MAYFS Team Leader for: • Providing direct client services for Aboriginal young people and their families in the metropolitan area that are at risk of increased vulnerability and exposure to the youth justice system. • Providing restorative practice within approved guidelines for the purpose of family reunification, increased community connections and reduced recidivism. • Working collaboratively with health professionals and other key partners in both government and non-government organisations to provide case management to assist young Aboriginal people and their families to achieve personal goals and create meaningful and purposeful education and employment pathways.
Key outcomes and accountabilities:
1. Deliver quality client focused family social work practice to Aboriginal young people and their families identified and assessed, as having complex needs. 2. Provide comprehensive clinical and cultural assessments, in partnership with information and case notes from families, colleagues and other services to utilise a range of family centered, strength based, culturally relevant intervention approaches to engage families. 3. Develop partnerships with families to determine the goals of Aboriginal young people to deliver and support sustained intervention as a member of a multidisciplinary team utilising a multi-disciplinary and inter-agency teamwork approach. 4. Assess the safety of Aboriginal young people and negotiate the mediation of risk including communicating effectively and efficiently with the Principal Youth and Family Practitioner in relation to issues of escalation. 5. Participate in regular clinical case reviews and supervision and the maintenance of data and records management to improve service delivery in accordance with policy and practices. 6. Continue to develop clinical skills including mentoring staff and providing high-level social work practice for peer consultations and undertaking professional development activities and participating in workplace training focused on upgrading skills and knowledge. Note: Any other responsibilities in line with the classification level of the role as assigned by Line Manager and/or the Department. The responsibilities as specified above may be altered in accordance with the changing requirements of the role.

Essential Qualifications
• An appropriate Social Work qualification from a recognised tertiary institution giving eligibility for full membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers. • Persons of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who have the appropriate background and skills but do not hold the essential qualification, may apply for and be engaged/assigned to the role of Social Worker and will be entitled to apply for any Allied Health Professional roles requiring a qualification in Social Work within the Department of Human Services.

Community and Family Services supports vulnerable people andfamilies to participate in social and economic life and buildstronger communities. This division comprises three key areas:
Safer Family Services (SFS) provides awide range of intensive family support services to children, youngpeople and families experiencing a high risk of statutoryintervention from the child protection or youth justice systems.Services also include family support, community development andparenting and youth programs.
The Office for Women works acrossgovernment and the community towards achieving gender equity andpositive change for women in South Australia by developing policyand advising on issues affecting women to improve their safety,wellbeing and economic security. The office also oversees theWomen’s Information Service to support women over the phone,online and in person, as well as regional safety hubs across thestate.
Communities and Justice works towardsbuilding community safety and wellbeing by providing support andservices to children, young people and families in the youthjustice system, building the capacity of communities throughcommunity development projects and working in partnership with thecommunity services sector to respond to people with complex andexceptional needs.

Salary Range: $66,469-81,142 (AHP1)
