A leading research institution client is seeking a Senior Research Computing Engineer to provide expert technical guidance across advanced GPU-based high-performance computing environments.
This role partners closely with researchers to enable scalable, secure and reproducible research workflows, while supporting the delivery of next-generation research computing infrastructure. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the position plays a key role in strengthening institutional research capability through best-practice computing solutions.
Main Responsibilities
Provide expert onboarding and technical support for research computing users
Resolve complex application and performance issues across HPC environments
Operate and maintain Linux-based HPC systems and services
Optimise workload scheduling, resource allocation and GPU utilisation
Design and deliver researcher training, workshops and technical documentation
Develop and support containerised research workflows for reproducibility
Monitor system performance, usage metrics, security and access controls
Technical Requirements
Strong experience supporting researchers on HPC, GPU and Linux platforms
Expertise with containers (Docker, Apptainer/Singularity, Kubernetes)
Advanced Linux system administration, automation and performance tuning
Experience with GPU-accelerated computing and distributed frameworks
Programming skills in Python and/or Bash
Proven stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Ability to translate research needs into practical computing solutions
