Randwick City Council is an innovative and progressive Council committed to serving our vibrant community on the eastern beaches of Sydney. Our Business and Systems Team is seeking a Collection Services Librarian.
Purpose
The Collection Services Librarian coordinates the collection development process across all sections of the library in accordance with customer demand and best industry practice, ensuring continued currency and relevancy of the collections.
About The Role
* Provide a leadership role in the development of all library collections, the selection, ordering and de-selection of library resources in all formats within the guidelines of the Collection Development Policy and allocated budget.
* Proactively identify and, in cooperation with the relevant library staff, implement technological solutions offered within the library industry to meet the changing information needs of the community.
* In cooperation with the relevant staff, establish a strong presence of the library collections and reader service and actively promote them through social media, library website and other means of online engagement.
* In cooperation with the Resource Management Coordinator, establish and maintain the framework for the development of a constructive, cost-effective relationship between RCL and its suppliers; and streamline the library electronic acquisitions procedures; develop and regularly review specifications for the selection of the library material by the suppliers to ensure the quality and relevance of the selection.
About You
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in Library and Information Science or equivalent allowing professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association
* A minimum of two years' experience within a public library with relevant experience in collection development and policy development.
* Widely read, with a good knowledge of literature at all levels.
* Demonstrated knowledge and sound understanding of issues and processes involved in collection and resource development such as community and stakeholder consultation, supplier liaison, product/resource assessment and policy development.
* Knowledge and awareness of the range of products and resources available (including electronic and print resources), and their suitability for a public library collection which is relevant and capable of reflecting the changing information needs of the community.
