Dargo Pastoral is a family-owned 3,800-acre sheep and cattle breeding property located between Bathurst and Orange, NSW. We are a progressive and forward-thinking business with a strong focus on livestock genetics, technology, and sustainability. Currently, the property runs 1,000 Angus breeding cows producing Angus and F1 Wagyu progeny through an extensive AI program designed to maintain a self-replacing herd. Alongside this, we run 1,200 Dorper and Australian White breeding ewes, producing both prime lambs and replacements for the breeding flock. About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Farm Hand/Overseer to help in the day-to-day operations and long-term development of our property. This is a full-time, permanent position with an immediate start, reporting directly to the owners.
Candidates must have 3-5 years of relevant experience.
This hands-on role combines practical farm work with assisting in strategic planning. From routine operational tasks through to helping in designing breeding programs, pasture improvement programs and shaping future growth, you will play a role in every aspect of the farm's success.
Key Responsibilities
· Manage daily farm operations, in consultation with the owners, with autonomy and accountability.
· Assist in developing and implementing forward-looking operational and breeding plans, with accurate record-keeping.
· Supervise and coordinate staff and contractors to ensure smooth operations when the owners are away.
· Assist in planning and overseeing weekly and monthly farm activities in consultation with the owners.
· Assist in the design and delivery of breeding programs for sheep and cattle, including AI scheduling.
· Manage livestock health, treatments, grazing rotations, crop planning, and pasture improvement in consultation with the owners.
· Assist in overseeing property improvements and capital works projects.
· Operate and maintain machinery, vehicles, and farm equipment, ensuring all are well-maintained and routinely serviced.
· Provide reports, quarterly reviews, and contribute to long-term strategic planning in consultation with the owners.
· Assist in developing and maintaining farm management documentation (SOPs, work method statements, etc.).
· Carry out essential farm maintenance, including fencing and water system repairs.
· This is a hands-on role, contributing across all areas of farm work.

· Physical fitness and resilience for outdoor, practical farm work.
· Proven experience in low-stress livestock handling and moving livestock using motorbikes and UTVs.
· Experience with cattle and sheep yard work, including branding and processing mobs.
· Tractor and machinery experience essential (ploughing, sowing, spraying, slashing, bucket and fork work).
· Mechanical knowledge and welding skills for general maintenance.
· Fencing skills and general farm infrastructure maintenance capability.
· Competence with farm technology, record-keeping software (Agriweb, Farmbot, Excel).
· A genuine passion for agriculture, continuous improvement, and sustainable growth.
· A clean, tidy, and organised approach to work with pride in outcomes.
Essential Criteria
· Two contactable references from previous employment.
· Current unrestricted driver's licence.
· Non-smoker.
· Australian citizenship is required for this position.
