Wellsbourne Healthcare is looking for an enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join their friendly and inclusive in-house pharmacy team.
The successful applicant will join our Clinical Pharmacists, and Prescription Clerks in providing operational support to the multi-disciplinary clinical team by optimising the use of medication to promote the health, wellness and disease prevention of patients.Main duties of the jobTo support the Practice Based Clinical Pharmacist to ensure thedelivery of safe, effective and efficient systems for repeat prescribing,medicines optimisation, reducing medicines waste and maximising patientoutcomes.The role will also include training and development of practicebased Pharmacy Administrators to support improved co-ordination and effective pharmacyadministration within practice, especially with relation to repeat prescribingsystems and processes.About usWellsbourne Healthcare CIC is a social enterprise, rooted in our local community, and led by Healthcare Professionals with many years of experience caring for patients in East Brighton.We encourage innovation, helped by strong links with the local university.
As a practice we are particularly proud of our research and pilot projects including an opiate reduction program, chronic pain management course, volunteer-led garden development, and therapy project.Job responsibilitiesTo undertake medicinesreconciliation in accordance with practice protocols and to update patientsmedical records / prescribing accordingly.To support the achievement of the practices prescribing Qualityand Outcomes Framework targets.Working with the Clinical Pharmacist and Pharmacy Administratorsto contribute to the review and development of repeat prescribing protocols andStandard Operating Procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness ofrepeat prescribing systems.To provide advice to GPs, staff and patients in changes toprescribing to support the improvement of prescribing safety, quality and costeffectiveness.To build searches and participatein medication audits and prescribing safety projectsTo assist in the appropriate monitoring and management ofprescribing budgets and to liaise with the medicines management team at SussexICBTo assist PCN in their projects and audits and participate inPCN Pharmacy Team meetings.To prepare evidence based resources and information to support theimplementation of rational cost-effective prescribing.To support the Practice Based Clinical Pharmacist to providemedication reviews, patient information leaflets, medicine awareness; and toundertake community visits as appropriate.To take a proactive approach to the safe handling ofprescriptions, including assessment of risk and making recommendations forimprovement.To respond to medication queries from patients and staff in aprofessional manner referring to the appropriate Clinician in accordance withpractice protocols.To advise on the sourcing and safe management of medicines as appropriate.To assist in the submission of claims for personally administered drugs asrequired.Be responsible for the organisation, planning and of ownworkload to meet set deadlinesTo take a proactive approach to trainingadministration team members (current and current) and new members joining pharmacyteamResponsibility for administrationOther duties and responsibilities to be undertaken may include anyor all the items in the following list:Taking messages and passing oninformation as appropriate.Computer data entry/data allocation and collation, processingand recording information in accordance with practice procedures.Initiating contact with and responding to requests frompatients, other team members and associated healthcare professionals andproviders.Helping to keep all practice areas tidy and free from obstructions and clutter.Helping to maintain a positive, patient focussed culture.Helping to maintain a positive, supportive culture across thewhole of the practice team.Any other duties commensuratewith this position.Duties will vary from time to time under the guidance of theDirectors / Practice Manager dependent on current and evolving practiceworkload and staffing levels.Person SpecificationQualificationsRegistered with the GPhC as a Pharmacy TechnicianEvidence of CPDMedicines reconciliation Certificate or equivalentExperienceRecent previous experience within comparable role in General PracticePrevious experience working within a patient facing roleExperience of prescribing/clinical systems such as SystmOne, EMIS WebKnowledge and SkillsExcellent communication skills, both verbal and writtenGood organisational skillsAbility to work under pressure in a busy environmentAbility to work as part of a teamAbility to plan, prioritise and organise workloadTeaching skillsContinued commitment to improve skills and ability in new areas of workKnowledge of audit and researchSelf-motivated, able to work collaboratively and independentlyAbility to work flexiblyAbility to make decisionsUnderstanding of clinical governance and risk managementAwareness of Medicines Management agendaDisclosure and Barring Service CheckThis post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
