In this role, you'll:

Be working as part of a team delivering innovative vehicle safety research, autonomous system testing, and the advancement of future mobility technologies, you'll contribute to the ongoing development, evaluation, and adoption of cutting-edge road safety systems in alignment with national and international standards.

Located in Central Western NSW, the Cudal Testing Facility is Australia’s only purpose-built centre for testing and evaluating advanced vehicle safety technologies. The facility is equipped with cutting-edge tools, including robotic driving systems, pedestrian dummies, and Guided Soft Targets (GSTs), enabling world-class testing of systems like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keep Assist, and Forward Collision Warning. We're at the forefront of autonomous vehicle and road safety innovation in Australia.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Officer – Future Mobility Testing and Research to join our dynamic and highly specialised team. In this mid-level role, you’ll contribute to a variety of high-impact initiatives including:

- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) testing
- Research and development of future mobility and autonomous technologies
- Vehicle safety innovation
- Road safety research projects under Transport for NSW (TfNSW)
- You'll also support the development and uptake of new and emerging vehicle and road safety technologies, helping shape the future of transport safety in NSW.

What You’ll Be Involved In

- Delivering project management and support services across testing and research programs
- Preparing technical reports, briefings, and documentation that support informed decision-making
- Conducting research and analysis into evolving mobility technologies and global safety trends
- Supporting field test planning, execution, data collection and issue resolution
- Ensuring equipment is operational and adapting quickly when technical issues arise
- Building collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- This is fixed term opportunity up until 25th June 2027.

About you

You'll be a technically minded, curious, and solutions-focused individual with:

- Tertiary qualifications or interest in Engineering (Mechatronics, Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Aviation or related fields)
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and planning capabilities
- Experience or interest in robotics, automation, autonomous vehicles, or sensor technologies
- Knowledge of communication systems (GPS, networking, radio), and connected vehicle technology
- The ability to write high-quality reports and research papers
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- You thrive in a collaborative, hands-on environment and enjoy seeing the real-world impact of your work. You’re also comfortable working autonomously and managing multiple priorities effectively.

Additional Information

- Testing may be required outside standard working hours (e.g., night-time testing)
- Occasional travel may be required
