The Client: NovaTech Services offers professional IT support and innovative solutions to corporations and individuals. They now seek an experienced Computer Network and System Engineer to join the team in Geelong West, Victoria. The Role: This is a full time role with an annual salary set at $90,000 plus superannuation, and will be based in Geelong West, Victoria. The Responsibilities: Design, implement, and maintain computer networks (LAN/WAN/Wi‑Fi/VPN). Configure and manage network hardware: routers, switches, firewalls, access points, load balancers. Install, configure, and administer network services (DNS, DHCP, NTP, directory services like AD/LDAP). Monitor network performance, availability, and capacity; tune for reliability and throughput. Troubleshoot network issues (connectivity, routing, latency, packet loss) and perform root-cause analysis. Plan and execute network upgrades, migrations, and expansions with minimal downtime. Implement network security controls (firewall rules, segmentation/VLANs, IDS/IPS, NAC, MFA integration). Set up secure remote access (IPsec/SSL VPN, Zero Trust solutions, bastion/jump hosts). Manage cloud and hybrid networking (AWS/Azure/GCP VPC/VNet design, peering, gateways, Direct Connect/ExpressRoute). Maintain documentation: network diagrams, IP addressing plans, configurations, SOPs, change logs. Perform backups of configurations and ensure disaster recovery and business continuity readiness. Work with ISPs and vendors for circuit provisioning, outages, and escalations. Conduct testing and validation (failover tests, performance tests, security assessments). Automate repetitive tasks (scripting with Python/PowerShell, Ansible/Terraform, configuration templates). Ensure compliance with standards/policies (ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, SOC2, internal change management). Provide technical support and guidance to IT teams; train users/operations staff as needed. Participate in incident response for network/security events and implement corrective actions. The Requirements: At least a Bachelor degree in IT or Computer Science At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in a corporate setting Must have AWS, ITIL and ISACA certifications Must have over 5 years' experience to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewall, routers, switches, controllers Must know how to setup virtual configurations in VMWare vSphere and Hyper-V At least 5 years of experience with server virtualisation, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and hybrid integration projects. At least 5 years' experience in cybersecurity practices, including firewall management, penetration testing, and compliance with ISO/IEC 27001 At least 5 years of experience in the software engineering discipline and the software engineering lifecycle with exposure to multiple software development lifecycle phases Working experience in working on Windows & Linux operating systems Strong computer skills predominantly in Windows XP/7, cloud software Strong working knowledge of database systems (SQL, Oracle), also backup and recovery databases and MS Office Strong analytical skills and sound administration skills Quick to grasp new ideas and concepts Ability to work to tight deadlines and under immense pressure at times
