About the Business Unit
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) provides a range of government programs focussed on improving community safety, victim services, regulatory services and crime prevention, and building strong collaboration across the justice system. The Justice System Coordination and Reform (JSCR) group supports the Attorney-General and DJCS ministers to deliver criminal and civil law, integrity and court services policy responsibilities by providing legal and policy expertise to DJCS and Justice Ministers, working collaboratively with key entities across the justice system and the department.
The Courts and Justice System Reform (CJSR) business unit leads strategic court and justice system reform relevant to the Attorney-General's first law officer responsibilities, including policy, strategic projects, legislation, judicial appointments, budget, sector support and development, and national agreements relating to legal assistance, and key Attorney-General entities across the justice system.
About the Role
The Senior Policy Officer is responsible for contributing to the co-ordination, research, development, implementation and review of the Project.
Duties will include
* Developing and implementing the Project's outputs, including the proposed funding distribution model and the outcomes-focused performance monitoring framework.
* Applying high level stakeholder management and problem-solving skills to ensure successful Project delivery.
* Providing high quality advice and oversight on key policy, performance and system reform issues relevant to the Project.
* Engaging, consulting and working collaboratively with our partners across the department and the broader justice system, including the legal assistance sector, to deliver on the Project's aims.
* Managing the preparation and lodgement of cabinet and parliamentary documentation and the drafting of complex ministerial and other correspondence for the Attorney-General's portfolio.
About You
As our ideal candidate, you will possess :
* Strong writing and research skills with the ability to prepare complex policy and project materials.
* Sound knowledge of or experience in Victorian Government administrative processes and policy development.
* Excellent strategic thinking and policy development skills, with a proven track record of delivering impactful outcomes.
* Understanding, or ability to rapidly gain an understanding, of government grant management including reporting and stakeholder management.
* Experience with and or / knowledge of the Victorian justice system and / or the legal assistance sector would be advantageous.
Qualifications / Requirements
* A tertiary qualification in a related discipline would be highly desirable.
